Standard procedure for force measurement of electrical connectors

Standard procedure for force measurement of electrical connectors

Blog | Dec 25,2021

Electronic connector forms and structures are diverse, with the application object, frequency, power, application environment and so on, there are various forms of electronic connector. The production process of the electronic connector is basically composed of stamping, electroplating, injection molding and assembly. The following four aspects are respectively introduced the standard steps of the plug and pull force measurement of the electronic connector (detailed process).

Test purposes

Test purposes

The purpose of the insertion force test for electronic connectors is to specify a standard method for determining the insertion force required between electronic connectors or between their protective covers and connectors.

Test preparation

When tested, the test sample consists of a plug and a contact receptor. the sample must match unless otherwise specified. The sample shall consist of all available hardware including rubber core, terminal, iron case, shield, screw or guide plate. The auxiliary clamp and fixture should be prepared before the test.

Test preparation

The test method

The insertion force test is performed by placing the two electrical connectors in the initial position of the mechanical pair t with the force gauge and torque gauge reading zero. Fully insert the connector at a progressive force rate as described in the specification and record the peak insertion force. The pull out force test is to pull out the pair connector completely at a progressive force rate as specified in the specification and record the pull out force value.

The test method

Notes

During testing, the tension gauge dial should be positioned in the connector so that the reading pointer is in the middle of the gauge, which can be operated with accuracy to ±2%. Samples do not need to be lubricated or cleaned by any means unless otherwise specified in the specifications.
